Resource Scheduling With Dynamic Route Process Qty

Hi,

Is it possible to execute master scheduling in scenario described below to retrieve hours needed (capacity reservations) to produce item based on combination of resource scheduled and item to produce?

I have 2 machines (R1 and R2). If R1 is used to produce item A, in 1 hour it will produce 10 pieces, but if R2 is used to produce A, in 1 hour it will produce 5 pieces. Those 2 machines may also be used to produce item B. If R1 is used to produce item B, in 1 hour it will produce 20 pieces, but if R2 is used to produce B, in 1 hour it will produce 30 pieces.

How should I configure production route or master scheduling to meet this scenario? Currently I am only able to configure process qty regardless of what machines is used (I set from route) but don't know if process qty is dynamic based on resource and item to produce.

Thanks

The first half of your problem is solvable by using the Formula = Capacity option on the Setup tab of the route operation. I can send you screen-shots of the whole process, but I suspect from the subtlety of your question that you already know how to do this. But of course we are stuck on the second half of your question, where we have a different item, with completely different run rates on the 2 machines.

Is customisation (or an ISV solution) an option open to you?

    Hi Tim,

    Thanks for your response.

so for case 2 items with 2 machines, AX standard feature don't cover it? Do you have reference ISV solution for this?

Hi Jefry - Agreed. I don't think standard Dynamics AX can handle your scenario. If there was a simple relationship between the speed of the two work centres (say for example R1 runs at twice the speed of R2 for all items) then there are a couple of ways of achieving a decent schedule - but there's no way I know of to define your pattern (for some items R1 runs fastest; for other items R2 runs fastest) in standard AX.

I started to evaluate ISV production scheduling options a while back - but I really didn't get any further than Googling the options and downloading fact sheets, so there isn't a solution that I can recommend.

    Hi Tim,

Unfortunately in my case, every resources have its own speed when producing items and it is tightly related to its age and machine type.

I also agree with your idea, in addition what I have in mind, AX will need a table which map relation between resources and items and then automatically generate or read existing route from which combination of resource and item is met.

Also, thanks for your help investing me your time find any production scheduling parameters or ISV solution. Much appreciated.

    Thanks.
