Hi,

I have a query what is the maximum number of line a single journal SHOULD have.

Is there any document from MS which tells about the best practice / or recommendation on the maximum number of line a single journal (general journal, Vendor payment journal or customer payment journal).

Thanks in Advance

Regards,

Abhijeet

I have not seen one. The only consideration is performance and there is some standard code to split big journals into multiple small journals to post them in parallel, because  journal could be posted in a single thread that could take significant amount of time.

    Hi Abhijeet,

There is no document from Microsoft. I do agree with Ievgen. Also there is a difference in performance if you have one single voucher or multiple voucher numbers. If you need to process large number of journal lines, make sure you test several approaches to see what would be the optimal speed for you.

    Hi,

Background of the question is as follows.

I have to post a single journal that has 70K lines.

If i post single journal it takes 20 to 22 hours.

There is an option to split journal based on limit line functionality to split this journal of 9500 each.

Just want to know spliting journal of 70k by using limit line will reduce posting time.

Also just wanted to check if there is any guidline or document from microsoft that provide best practise to post a journal which has 70k lines with reasonable performance.

    Thanks in advance.

    Abhijeet

    Hello Abhijeet,

70k lines is a lot but as Andre and Ievgen already mentioned, there is no MS guide available for this.

Guess that you have to make a couple of tests with different journals and journal lines to identify what is the fastest way of getting those lines posted.

By the way, do you regularly have to post 70k lines?

If so, what do you post here?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

You should be able to post it in batch and split them into multiple journals using line limit as per white paper www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

I don't remember if it just works in 2012 or requires minor customization but let's says you have 16 batch threads and you set lines limit to 2000 you will get 35 journal that going to be posted in 16 parallel threads that is generally 16 times faster. If you have more threads it would be even faster :)

We are looking to use this line limits functionality to split an Item Journal of 50,000 lines. Not finding this line limit options on Item Journals. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. We are on D365 finance and operations Service Update 10.0.27.

    Hello,

I need to do an inventory counting for over 7,000 items on D365 FO.

The problem is that the maximum line is below 1000. How do I go about this?

Also, is there a way to do the counting per warehouse?

    Thanks.
