Pay employees in advance

We are trying to figure out how to process payroll advances and then deduct the monies in the next payroll via a deduction for hourly and salaried employees.

This pay advance should not show up on their W-2's at the end of the year but would be handled via a Balance Sheet account.

The advance would be paid in 2022 and recovered in January of 2023.

Can GP handle this? Is there anything that can go wrong?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Salary advances is paying an employee a portion of his salary in advance. For example – If an employee has a medical emergency and is in need for his salary of February in advance then the employer can pay him a portion of his salary beforehand. The advances are recovered in installments and are usually interest-free.  www.mythdhr.com

    Hello,

The default Advance Pay functionality in Microsoft Dynamics GP would work as follows:

An advance pay run is a way to pay salaried employees an advance on their regular salary pay. The advanced amount will be subtracted from the employees' net pay in the next salary pay run.

Process and track an advance pay run - Dynamics GP | Microsoft Learn

I can't speak to the accounting side or how you should be properly tracking advances such as this when it comes to your W-2 and such, but this would be a potential method that you could test for your scenario.

If you search online for for microsoft Dynamics gp "advance pay" - Search (bing.com) there are other articles out there posted by Partners too that you could take a look at.

    Thanks!
