Hi,
We need to develop a new inventory tracking dimension. I was told it is better to reuse an existing not-used tracking dimension. From performance perspective, enable a new tracking dimension would introduce a tremendous records in inventory dimension related tables.
Is that a correct statement?
Thanks,
Hi Yuji,
Use existing if one already exists rather than taking modification on this large piece of the product. It's spread all over the place and it can really be a mess, not trying to scare you but don't underestimate the modification. If you can find something standard that MS support in terms of adding another dimension, don't try to take this on.
Microsoft did prepare the solution to be able to use 10 additional inventory dimensions. Have a look at the documentation: docs.microsoft.com/.../inventory-dimensions
Note that several ISVs can also use these. A VAR is then responsible for the correct working environment at the customer. FYI: Our Product Engineering ISV solution is using the InventoryDimension1.
