Sales or PSA for closing an Opportunity as Won?

Hi we are looking to introduce PSA.

Currently D365 Sales is used to create Leads, Opps etc.

If PSA is used can the Opportunity be closed/won in Sales and appear in PSA as a project automatically or do Sales need to use PSA to close/win the Opportunity?

Thanks any advice on this would be great.

    Hi Brenda,

Sales will need to use PSA or Project Operations (new version of PSA) to create a project quote and an estimation project. Opportunity can be closed in PSA or in Sales..

it is worth going through the following training materials to understand the process for creating project opportunities/quotes and estimation projects:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../5-sales-management

And a link to a good 3min video on Project Operations: www.youtube.com/watch

    Kind regards

    Matthew

    Hi

As far as I know, projects are not created automatically in PSA when an opportunity is won so I am not sure I understand your question.  Projects are created separately and then linked to the quote and order.

    - When you create an opportunity, quote u order from project service, order type field is automatically set to type = work based.

    - When you create an opportunity, quote u order from Sales app order type is set to = item automatically.

So if you create the opportunity in  Sales, it won't be visible by default in PSA. But even if it did the project is not created automatically (at least you have some sort of custom process)

There are also some differences between the opportunity, quote and order entities that you should consider.

    Thanks

    Tess
