Miscellaneous Logs and Project Cost Transfer

Posted on by 10

How do I do a project transfer cost between two different projects within GP 2016? I know how to start with the Miscellaneous Log Batch, entering the projects, cost categories, units, and cost. What I don't understand is when it comes to the error message pictured below:

If I get past this error message and complete the line item, then there are no summary or line distributions: see snip below

What am I missing? Both projects have the cost category ID withing their budgets, why won't it display the accounts that the cost transfer will affect?

    Hi,

    Thanks for your question.

The error "This cost category hasn't been selected for use with miscellaneous log transactions" would appear when the Usage Type of the cost category in Cost Category Maintenance is something other than Misc Log. Cost categories can only be used for 1 type of cost transaction at a time.

As far as moving costs from 1 ML cost category to another, what you are showing in your screen shot is correct. You are decreasing the cost from the 1 project, and putting it on the other. Since you are not getting any distributions, that tells me that the same posting accounts are being used for both project\cost category combinations so the net result in GL is $0. Distributions in Project are summarized so you don't see the in and the out.

But you will see the Actual Cost changed on both projects after posting.

    I hope that helps!
