Uploading Fixed Assets Opening balances through templates

Hi everyone,

I need to upload opening balances of fixed assets acquisition cost and accumulated depreciation in AX 2009. Am doing this for first time. I need guidance on which templates to be used here. I tried uploading this through Ledger Journal Trans template which showed me lines in General Journal but this is showing me new error every time i try to post the journal. Is this the right way? or i need to post acquisition & depreciation only through Fixed asset journal? If i need to use only fixed asset journal, then which all templates i need to fill in and import??

Kindly help.

In addition: what kind of templates are you using? Did you create Excel templates yourself?

Halo guys.. Am getting this error while posting this General Journal for fixed asset"Offset account for transaction type Acquisition, value model XX, does not exist for fixed asset XX". Note that i have only specified the ledger account in posting profile(PP) for acquisition. I have not specified any offset accounts in this PP as i had previously posted some fixed asset manualy thru fixed asset journal and they are all recorded correctly.

    Hello Monahb,

If you check the fixed asset tab in your GL Journal, can you identify a value model?

To me it seems that your fixed asset setup is incomplete.

Each and every fixed asset that you want to use need a value model otherwise AX cannot record any ledger Transaction for you.

Please double check whether you have assigned at least one value model to your fixed assets and also double check whether you have Setup ledger accounts for fixed asset acquisition posting.

For fixed asset transfers you typically do only need a fixed asset acquisition account but no offset account as the offset account is typically a "fixed asset balance sheet transfer account" that you need to specify in your journal.

    All the best,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

I checked. Every line has got a value model in fixed asset tab.

I see and your fixed assets are actually setup with this value model? Or are the value models simply entered through an upload into your journal? What happens if you open the fixed asset value model drop down field in your Journal, can you identify the value model? Ludwig

    Hi Monahb,

Please check if the journal line has the offset account filled or not. Can you also check the journal lines form is debit and credit is equal, so the balance is zero?

    Halo everyone,

The issue is resolved. I had used the ledgerJournalTrans Template for uploading opening balances. The reason why the system was giving me new errors everytime i tried to post the journal was the posting profile, even though was shown in the field, was somehow not updated in back end. I then reselected the posting profile again for individual lines of journal and then validated it, the errors did not appear again and it was posted. So the actual reason was the data uploaded through the template, posting profile though uploaded in same, system was not able to update it.

    Thanks everyone.
