CALs requirement for Menu Item created for External Vendors

Dear All,

While creating a new menu item in Dynamics AX 2012 R3, we need to assign View user license and Maintain user license. I am not sure which CAL is to be used.

Is their a documentation or certain criteria that allows to decide the CALs?

These menu items are being accessed indirectly through AIF (xml) using a 3rd party app. The data contained is service requests of customer for maintenance/repair of their product.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Prashant

I could only repeat what was already discussed in your previous thread, Licensing Terms for Vendors.

When you develop your own menu items and functionalities in the system, you can choose which ever AccessLevel you want.

    Hi Ludwig,

I couldn't find the exact answer but I have verified the ones that helped me provide some clarity in the previous post https://community.dynamics.com/ax/f/microsoft-dynamics-ax-forum/399904/licensing-terms-for-vendors

If I get any exact answers I'll post it here.

    Thanks

    Prashant

I understand that AccessLevel and View/Maintain User license are different, one provides access to users the other defines the license requirement of user.

Anyways, can you please clarify this - If 'None' is assigned to View/Maintain user License then does Microsoft consider it as the highest CAL i.e Enterprise for the users of those Menu items? I read this here - community.dynamics.com/.../the-important-viewuserlicense-and-maintainuserlicense-properties-of-menu-items

Because if that is so why is the option of 'None' provided even?

Only Microsoft can answer that. But at least this allows you to see if a developer really wanted to define the menu item to require Enterprise license, or if they just forgot to set any value to the property.
