Importing the Unit Groups (attached image), went fine.
When importing the Units the 5 "Connector" units imported successfully but the other 19 received an error: "The base unit does not belong to the schedule".
I've checked to make sure there's not a space afterward and also I exported the Unit Groups to show that the base unit does in fact belong to the schedule (third image attached)
What gives?
Okay, but if the imported Unit Group is now there and the default Unit is there and tied to that Unit Group (because you imported the Name of the Default Unit at the time of importing the Unit Group), then on to my next question:
1. If we're using the Unit Group's Name and the Default Unit's Name as the lookup during the import I don't understand why it doesn't work.
Correct because you can’t change the guid for the already created unit group with the unit you wish to import in your second step.
Thanks for answering.
One follow up set of questions.
So importing Unit Groups is fine, the key issue is importing the Units for those groups in the same import is the challenge?
If the lookup being done is by name though I don't understand why it would be an issue.
Regardless, if we imported Groups and then pulled the ID from each groups default unit and then did a separate import of Units shouldn't that work?
Sorry it hasn’t. I deal with this issue each project. I have considered building some workarounds myself but it hasn’t been worth it so far. Issue is that unit groups require units when being created. Therefore when you create unit group you are in fact creating also a unit connected. Then you try to import same unit but this time it won’t have the same guid as the one that was created by the system when unit groups were created.
...except that was like from 7 years ago. ...I'd be very disappointed if that hasn't gotten resolved by now.
Hi
Please see url below for comment in previous forum thread from mvp stating it is not supported which confirms my already suggested answer.

Who'da thunk that a database program would have potential to NOT be able to import data into it's tables...beyond me.
You are correct about single base unit per Unit Group. However, did you not look at the attachments? They answer your question. I am not importing multiple base units.
You say that pretty confidently and I like that so it seems like it MIGHT be true. I was able to successfully import Unit Groups and even SOME unit's but then others failed. Nothing I saw could help me understand it so I am going to assume your information might be accurate, but will hold out for any further definitive evidence. :)
I'm not sure exactly, but seems you can only have a single base unit defined per Unit Group. Are you trying to Import multiple base units into 1 Unit Group?
