Warehouse Management with existing data after upgrade to Dynamics 365

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

Currently we use Dynamics AX 2012 R3 without the WHS and TMS modules set up. They are enabled in License Configuration but were not set up at implementation. We will likely move to Dynamics 365 here in the next few years but would like to know if we can set up these modules in 365 at that point to work with our existing data, or if there will be significant added complexity since this isn't set up in our system now?

Thank you,

JKNOPP

RE: Warehouse Management with existing data after upgrade to Dynamics 365

Changing from non-WHS to WHS involves using a Storage Dimension group with 'Use warehouse management processes' on your items, and the same setting on your warehouse(s). Changing the Storage Dimension group, which you'll need to do unless you already have that setting ticked, is a bit of a pain. Implementing that change in parallel with a Go Live on a different environment might actually save some of that pain. I guess that depends on whether your D365 is a data upgrade or a clean install with data migration.
