Question regarding Counting Journal in AX2012

Hi,

I have a question regarding counting journal. If I am doing counting for different warehouses, the same item may be end up with error message? For example, two warehouses warehouseA & warehouseB,  and there is a item ItemX is there in both the warehouses. I have counted and entered the item in the journal for warehouseA, and when I am trying to enter the item for warehouseB, I am getting the message "Item X is locked for updates in warehouse B because it is being counted." Does it mean, I can count the same item for first warehouse and posted and then only for second warehouse?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Bilal,

    But the warehouse is different. It means it is working irrespective of warehouses?

    Hi Dahnoop,

    you can do that , the below is from life cycle service.

    1621724Counting Journal Issue

    Product and version

    Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2

    PROBLEM

    Your customer is not able to get the same items in several counting journals for several warehouses.

    MITIGATION

    You have to define warehouse items for each warehouse:

    1. Go to Product Information Management | Common | Released Products.

    2. Select the item in question.

    3. Click on Manage Inventory | Warehouse Items.

    4. Specify all warehouses where the item is located and save.

    Hi Dhanoop,

    There is an inventory parameter "Lock items during count" which can be changed for blocking other transactions while an item counting journal is open. The blocking should be per inventory dimension, so if you count in warehouse A, it cannot block warehouse B.

    Hi Andre,

    Sorry, the solution you have provided is not working for me. I am getting the same error message.

    Hi Bilal,

    Sorry, It is asking for the default warehouses. In other words I cannot add new warehouse there.

    You should create a 'Warehouse items' record against the item for each warehouse that you wish to count it in. The only thing you need to set on the warehouse items record is the Warehouse Id.

    Per Bilal's comment:

    1. Go to Product Information Management | Common | Released Products.

    2. Select the item in question.

    3. Click on Manage Inventory | Warehouse Items.

    4. Specify all warehouses where the item is located and save.

    Hi Dhanoop Ramdas,
    It’s the default behavior of system, if an item is already in counting status, system will not allow you.

    As you create a new line in journal and save it, system creates a record/line in table InventItemLocationCountingStatus.

    At the same time, system validates that if an item is in counting status already it gives warning message.

    See bwloe lines of code

    if (inventJournalTrans.JournalType == InventJournalType::Count)

       {

           inventDimThis = InventDim::find(inventJournalTrans.InventDimId);

           if (InventItemLocation::isCountingStarted(inventJournalTrans.ItemId, inventDimThis, inventJournalTrans.JournalId))

           {

               inventJournalTrans.dataSource().reread();

               inventDim.dataSource().reread();

               throw error(strFmt("@SYS59534", inventJournalTrans.ItemId, inventDimThis.InventLocationId));

           }

       }

    Hi Sohaib & Guy Terri,

    I have followed the link which Sohaib has shared. What I have done is unchecked the option "counting started" in the general tab for Warehouse Item under Manage Inventory. Now that error is not coming. I am not sure whether it is going to be a problem while posting. I haven't posted it yet.

    Thanks for the suggestion. It worked for me.

    Do you think it may cause any issues?

    Yes, I think it could causes issues. AX will re-set that tick box if you 'disturb' the item in one of the count journals.

    Just so I am sure I have the right understanding... you want to count an item in two different warehouses at the same time?

    This is possible in standard AX. In the Warehouse items form, you'll see one record on which it is not possible to set a 'Warehouse'. Hit 'New' and set a Warehouse (one of the warehouses you want to count the item in). Hit 'New' again, and set the other Warehouse. You'll now have three records, only one of which has no Warehouse.

    You may need to remove the item from all the un-posted count journals. Next time you count it, you will be able to count it in both warehouses without any problem.
