Hi, is it possible in new WMS AX 2012 R3 we block location like in old WMS? I only can find inventory status blocking, but not location.

Hi Bashir, thanks, but that's not what I mean. I do not activate both, I just ask a feature in new WMS which in old WMS is available.

    Hi Ventsi,

As far as I know (I might be wrong), standard AX doesn't have this feature. I customize it to fulfill my customer needs.

    Thanks.

    Hi Jefry,

could you tell me what was the effective solution for this problem? We have a client who has same need. They want to temporarily close an empty location, and all of processes in AX 2012 R3 WHS (new WMS) should take into consideration this.

    Hi, Tamas

I think the most simple thing is to create a new location profile, name it like "Blocked" or something and assign it to the desired locations. This would work for you, unless you haven't used location names in your  location directives.

I used this trick with my customer and it worked.

Thanks, it seems good solution. There is only one problems with this: when the user want to unblock the location they have to change the "blocked" location profile to the original. But what was the original, who knows? Of course it is possible to use database log or you can use talkative location name (including the profile name)

Hello Jefry, what did you finally do ? I have the same problem for a customer and I'm about to make a customization also... Any other solutions ? Thanks  !

To wrap up all the suggested answers above: Standard AX 2012 R3 does not give a complete solution for blocking locations for putaway, movements or picking. One part of the solution might be to block a specific quantity on a location by using the form Inventory blocking. However, it remains possible to put new inventory on that location. To prevent that for instance, putaway work will be created for the 'blocked' location, you can change the location profile or zone-ID of that location, depending on what you are using in the location directives. Still, it remains possible to override the suggested putaway location into the location which is 'blocked' when executing work in the PDA.

Another way to handle this would be to add a large number to the location sort codes and subtract it when you want to make it available.

    1. Add a range specifying that the location sort code should be less than that large number in all location directive actions (Ex: Sort code <1000)
    2. Add that large number to the location sort code, to the location which you want to block (Ex: 56 + 1000)
    3. When you want your location to be available again subtract 100 from the location sort code (Ex: 1056-1000)
    4. This will also help you identify which all locations are currently blocked.
