Financial Dimensions and Worker Hours Transactions

(0) ShareShare

Hello!

I will jump right in --- let us say the following events occur:

  1. Worker John Smith is setup on 01JAN2017 with a financial dimension pointing at Department A.
  2. John Smith enters timesheets for all of JAN2017.
  3. JAN2017 timesheets for John Smith are posted on 15FEB2017.

When I look at the posted project transactions for the time entered during JAN2017, all Transactions and Ledger Updates for John Smith have a Financial Dimension that states Department A. Great, this is what I would expect.

Now let us say things continue like so:

  1. John Smith enters timesheets for all of FEB2017
  2. On 01MAR2017, John Smith has his worker Financial Dimension changed to Department Z because his job changed.
  3. FEB2017 timesheets for John Smith are posted on 15MAR2017.

When I look at the posted project transactions for the time entered during FEB2017, all Transactions and Ledger Updates for John Smith have a Financial Dimension that states Department Z. This is not what I would expect and is not what I want because John Smith was a part of Department A for FEB2017. Side note: this same thing happens when Hours Adjustments are performed --- transactions are updated with the worker's Financial Dimensions at the time of posting the transaction, even if the Financial Dimensions were different for the original transaction.

Why is this? Is there a Configuration option I am missing to ensure that the proper Financial Dimension is used?

    Hi MarkS,

When has the time for February been entered? Before or after changing the financial dimension setup.

Where exactly have you changed the financial dimension associated with your employee? Can you share a screenshot?

Have any other financial dimension setups been changed?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

The time for February will have been entered before the financial dimension was changed on 01MAR. The timesheets will not have been posted to projects until after the dimension change on 01MAR.

Other financial dimension setups will not have been changed.

The changes are made through the Worker record. Navigate to Human Resources -> Common -> Workers; choose a worker record and then choose Employment on the left menu. Financial dimensions are at the bottom. Please see screenshot below!

    Thank you!

    Hi,

Further above you mentioned that the same thing happens when hour adjustments are performed.

Can the issue then be caused by the fact that the autoupdate field parameter and the use adjustment date as new project data parameter are activated?

If they are active can you test whether deactivating them resolves the problem?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

The issue has been determined to be that we do not use the Employment History for worker dimension changes. Without the Employment History setup, whatever dimensions that are present on the worker are used for all transactions for that worker, regardless of date. With Employment History correctly setup, the financial dimensions for transactions will pull from the corresponding period that is setup in the Employment History.
