GP to BC migration question

Posted on by 75,730

The last time I did a GP to BC migration it did not bring over any history. Is that still true? What does get brought over?

Thanks Andrea. It has been 6 months since I last toyed with BC. I will go see if my old tenant is still active and try to upgrade TWO one more time.

RE: GP to BC migration question

    Hi Richard,

I think what they mean by ‘historical data I kept in extensions’ is that the GP historical data is stored in GP specific tables within the Business Central product. You can view/access this historical data within Business Central and no, you don’t have to use a different application. These historical tables are populated automatically as part of the migration process. If that doesn’t occur for some reason, then that tells me there was a problem with the migration.

Here’s an example of how you can see historical GP data in Business Central for Receivables Management:

In BC, click on Customers >> All >> Dynamics GP Historical Receivables Transactions:

    BC1.png

Here’s what the historical RM information looks like when I do that:

    BC2.png

Another way to look at this historical GP data while logged into Business Central is to do the following:

    1. Right click on the Business Central tab in your browser, and choose ‘Duplicate’ to open a new tab. In the address bar of the duplicated tab, enter the following:

    https://businesscentral.dynamics.com/?table=xxxxx

    1. Replace xxxxx with the table you want to view. So, let’s say I want to view the GP POP History table in Business Central, I’d enter this link:

    https://businesscentral.dynamics.com/?table=4057

    1. Here’s what my GP POP History table looks like in BC:

In reference to Payroll: No, there are not currently plans to add Payroll data to the GP to BC Migration tool. There is not a Payroll module within the core in Business Central product. With that said, there are Payroll 3rd party apps available that can be used with Business Central.

Here’s a link to the App Store that lists all the different apps available for Business Central (if you search on US Payroll here you’ll see all the various apps available):

    Hope this helps!

RE: GP to BC migration question

Andrea, what do they mean that historical data is kept in extensions? Is historical data accessible right from within BC just like GP or there some other application that needs to be used? Once you start using BC historical data is kept. Is there anyway to populate these historical tables with the data from GP. I also do not see any payroll tables. Are there any plans for payroll in BC?

RE: GP to BC migration question

    Hi Richard,

Yes, the GP to BC migration should bring over historical GP data from Receivables, Payables, Sales Order Processing, Purchase Order Processing, and Inventory.

The following documentation talks about what gets brought over to BC from GP during the migration process. Specifically #5 talks about the historical information.

With that said, it does not bring that historical data into BC in such a way that you can 'report' on that data as you would for historical Business Central Information. Rather, this historical data is stored in specific GP historical tables in Business Central.

These are the Business Central tables that store GP specific data:

    40100 GP Bank MSTR
    40099 GP Checkbook MSTR
