Making required Financial dimensions

Hi,

I want to be able to make the financial dimensions of Company and Department required on Purchase Orders both header and line level...for now. We have issues were the user is forgetting to enter this and then when it is time to invoice we always get the error for Fin Dims. So this should be a simple fix to prevent this.

But if do make these field required, this will affect other areas like Sales Orders wouldn't it? Is there a way in making the change on only POs? I know we would have to change the mandatory field on the table.

We tied the financial dimension to the site dimension and have a personalization on the PO create form that only contains required fields which includes site and warehouse.  This is done via "retrieve from user" during training.  They can easily see that all required fields are filled out when the form is full.  Once it is set on the PO header the site and financial dim default down to the lines.

Because of this most users are unaware that financial dims exist at all.

I think requirement is related to the main account.  If you are getting an error then it is already required.

Good point that the financial dimension is already required because the error is displaying at time of invoice.

What I want is the error to display on time of creating the PO. So you added the financial dimensions to the create purchase order form? I wouldn't have to modify the field to require, correct? Since it already is. Just placing the fields on the form itself would do, correct me if I'm wrong.

What do you mean by done via "retrieve from user"?

Our financial dimension is tied to the site which is on the PO form.  Because of this when the site is specified so is the dimension.  Im trying to look back to see how this was done.  Looking back this may not work in your situation.  What is your dim related to?

If you can do "customizations" I would put that dim on the PO create form.  This would not affect your sales orders.  Upon review financial dimensions are not available on the form via personalization.

A "personalization" can be shared among users by one user saving his/her personalization.  Another user can then personalize their form(right click on backgroung>personalize) and hit the "Retrieve from user (h)" button on the right.  they choose the user and then the saved personalization.

Possible personalization on PO Line Form:

Ah yes I see. I have dimensions for Company, Department, Project, etc. This is to allocate which bucket the money transactions are dropping into.

Since the Purchase order is related to the set of dimensions with the "DefaultDimension" field,  this doesnt really work in displaying the dimensions in its own group on the Create form. I would have to customize and include the external table for the dimension.

We use workflow to force the user to enter this information.  If it is not entered, it is rejected and they are unable to confirm the transaction.

Hi J-AX can you please post your workflow ?

When is this 'check' done to make sure the fin dims are entered? Is it made when you close the PO form?

The default Dimensions for PO Header is picked from the Vendor Master and for PO lines from the Item.

In AX 2012 R2 CU7, the financial dimensions on PO lines can be specified on Purchase agreements (either on the header or individual lines). The financial dimensions are copied to the header of a purchase order that refers to the agreement.

The dimensions are copied to the purchase order lines when the agreement is referenced by the order lines.

So that might be an approach you can use

If using PR then see this thread https://community.dynamics.com/ax/f/33/t/256355 and this support blog https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/dynamicsaxscm/2017/02/07/financial-dimensions-on-a-purchase-requisition/

Maybe consider a daily  exception report of  missing dimensions on open orders or created prior day orders. Also for misusing dimensions on items/agreements

Maybe put in a workflow for approval before it can be saved..
