Hi,
I'm getting this error now while installnig hotfix cu9 ax2012. Open file log and error belows...
The model file references an element that belongs to another model thatdoes not exists in the model store. You can use the /createparents command switch to create a model where these elements will be placed.The import has been aborted and rolled back.Error updating model database: Microsoft.Dynamics.Setup.AxSetupException: AxUtil call returned errors:The model file references an element that belongs to another model thatdoes not exists in the model store. ANy suggestion ? i'm stuck now how to do this task.

Imagine that you're importing a model adding a method to ClassA, but ClassA it's defined in a model that doesn't exist in the target environment. You can't add a method to nothing, therefore the import failed.
Your first step should be finding out which model is failing to import.

But i'm importing single model only. Then why ?
All right, then it's obvious which model has a problem.
Why? As I explained above, it's because the model refers to an element that doesn't exist in the target environment.

I've seen my hotfix kb version in installed models, what does it mean ? Hotfix installed on ax?

I'm installing hotfix on cu9 r3 ax2012, on installation process it throws an error of as i've mentioned above of "The model file references an element that belongs to another model". I was stuck for long time then i tried to open dynamics ax and it shows a window which says " The models store has been modified".
There are multiple option to check , so i check the default one "Start the software update checklist".. and click proceed. After this i've checked the installed models i.e tools > model management > installed models and here i find my hotfix version... Now once i tried to generate the full compile it throws me an error of " error when loading the method. type: fbtaxassessmentwhtbalancecontrol_br, method: distributeremaningdebitperfbtaxtrans".
Now i've generated full compile aot.
the reason of generating full cil,i was unable to see some changes that refer to hotfix. I.e some menu items etc.
any suggestion now?
Hmm, does it mean that you ignore the problem and now you're trying to use the environment anyway, despite the fact that the update didn't succeed.
Then nobody knows in which state your environment currently is, but using it doesn't sound like a good idea. You're now seeing it for yourself.
Martin, agree with your thoughts, even i'm also worried. I didn't get the solution for the above problem, you said the model refers to an element that doesn't exist in the target environment but how would i resolve this? as i've only contain a hotfix, so from where should i find the missing model reference.
I'm confused. You said that you're importing a single model and also that you're installing the whole Cumulative Update 9. These are very different scenarios.
Please tell us more what you did, where and when you got the error and what you have in the target environment (the current application version, customer models or vanilla AX).

what i do is there's a staging server already installed ax with cu9 and Kernel version is 6.3.2000.326 ax2012 R3. Now i want to install a hotfix for some modification required, first i run the axupdate installer and select the database model name and it process and after some time it throws an error of "model file references an element that belongs to another model error" while installing hotfix. what will be the next step need to be perform to resolve this task, Cause it already said setup was not completed means modification hasn't been deployed on my staging machine.
