Planned Order History

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

We're looking for a way to report what Sales Order/Production Order drove Planned Purchase Orders that were firmed. Note: Our Sales orders and Production Orders and Purchase Orders are not exclusively "marked/linked" together.

Ex:

Enter Sales Order: S0000001, Qty 1, of part ABC

AX Plans Production for 1pc of ABC

AX Plans Purchase Orders for requirements of 1pc ABC (call this ABC1, ABC2, ABC3 materials)

We firm these POs, either separately, or together into one.

On the firmed PO Line Details, we have a "Planned-Order reference" Number and Plan for the original planned order.

Is there a table that holds "historical" planned order info that we can reference? Is there a report we're missing in AX that would tell us this automatically?

Thank you!

I'm also looking to find a way to see if a production order was firmed from a planned order or was simply created using the new record form.  If it was firmed using a planned order, was the qty in the planned order used when firming, or was it changed by the user.  Trying to build a kpi around this as I did this often with other companies using SAP.  I'm not finding anyway to locate these details in AX.

Ultimately the answer is no - the PO itself might never be directly linked to one produciton order, the driver could be a transfer order, safety stock level, forecast. It is basically a balance of supply and demand. I have been involved in companies where they state this relationship is always 1:1, but that is never true, it is the majority of the time and therefore we wrote customisations to push the sales order through to the PO. This only worked if there was a direct relationship of requirement 1:1 from sales order through to PO - the moment the PO accumulated requirements from multiple production orders, or production orders accumulated requirements from multiple demand points nothing was written.

There is no table holding historical planned orders due to the volume impact and there is no report because it would not work for most businesses and the system is flexible to break the report the majority of the time.
