MRP based on Forecast

Posted on by 10

Hi,

i am trying to get a list of material that i need to buy to fullfill a given forecast for the next year (let's say 50 pieces of item A).

I used the production forecast in NAV  to enter a forecast for the items we probably going to sell. Is it correct to use Forecast Type "Sales Item" here?

The result should be a list of all the materials that I need to purchase to produce those 50 pieces of item A.

I assumed I can use the Planning Worksheet to do this and enter my forecast there? But how can i tell the system that it should plan based only on my forecast and ignore inventory and open sales and purchase orders?

Is Planning Worksheet combined with a Production Forecast the right tool? Or is it maybe Requisition Worksheet?
Woulb be glad if someone can help out here.

    RE: MRP based on Forecast

    Hi!

Did you ever figure out this?

I'm trying to do the same scenario. We would like to run MRP based on forecast and inventory only, I wonder if this is possible without development work?

Anything you know will help, thanks!

    RE: MRP based on Forecast

Too bad. And I think creating a new company without transactional data is too time consuming. Our database is already huge and I do not see an easy option for the end user to create such a database.

Could it be possible to restrict planning and/or forecast to a specific lcoation that has no demand/supply?

Or would the planning routine just suggest transfer orders in that case?

There are several location setups fields for planning, forecasts and also in production setup but I not sure if they can somehow be used for our purpose.

Ok, that makes perfect sense now. Unfortunately there isn't an easy way to get the data. If you do such negotiations often, the only viable approach (without having any bespoke development or new report created) is to create a new company that holds 'master' data only (such as items, Boms, etc.) but no transactional data (no orders, no inventory, etc.).

Then you create a Forecast and run the MRP/MPS in this new company, that will show requirements for forecast only, as you won't have any other demand or supply.

It's not a viable approach if you need figures just once, but if you do it constantly, it might make sense. I can't figure out any other 'standard' way of getting such info.

    Thank you for your reply.

We want to use the numbers to negotiate with vendors.

We have to know how much of an item the vendor must be able to deliver per year.

Therefor current demand (except the forecast) and supply should not be considered.

I thought about setting planning dates in the future where we do not have any orders etc. but then there is still the stock that will still be available. Too bad we do not have an option to exclude it. I really do not want to alter any of the planning logic.

The report "Prod. Order - Mat. Requisition" might be close to what we need except it is for a single production order and not based on any forecast. Also not very promising.

    Hi,

I don't think you can without specific development - the MRP/MPS will always look at the demand (sales orders, production orders, forecast, etc) and supply (existing stock, purchase orders, etc).

Why would you need such information?
