SSRS report query DS field selection VS error

ReportReport

Hi folks

When one adds a query DS to a report you are presented with this window:

Screenshot-2020_2D00_02_2D00_26-at-08.54.47.png

However when I select a query and click Next the window never loads and eventually presents this error:

pastedimage1582793207057v1.png

What I have tried:

  1. Restarting Reporting services
  2. iisreset
  3. Restarting the VM
  4. DB sync
  5.  Any possible combination of trying to specify the value for Query on the DS properties.

It happens for any report - system, custom and new ones. And it happens for any query.

I have encountered this before (probably more than a year ago). I can't remember what the solution was.

Thanks for your attention

Can you please provide the error message as text or at least a larger image? I can't read it.

Text is preferred, because it can be easily copied and pasted (e.g. for Issue search on LCS) and it would be indexed by search engines.

Sorry about that Martin. VS doesn't allow me to highlight the error text. I'll type it out:

Exception occurred on the metadata service on client or server. See exception details below:

    >An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to usnconeboxax1aos.cloud.onebox.dynamics.com/.../ . This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details.

    Hi Pete ,

    Please check the old thread:

    community.dynamics.com/.../exception-occurred-on-the-metadata-service-on-client-or-server---error

Check for the “OfflineAuthenticationAdminEmail”  key in file “DynamicsDevConfig” in AOSService -> PackagesLocalDirectory->Bin to be set to the correct login email that you are using.

    Thanks MATTGUO

That thread looked so promising. But it didn't work for me - I'm still stuck.

I checked the event viewer. Reporting Services encounters this error:

I don't understand how reporting services can complain about a duplicate record? (Yes the DB synchronizes successfully.)

    I just want to dev

I also do not understand why the error is for Management Reporter 2012 Services.

I am currently configuring a new VM.

  • Pete Alberts Profile Picture
    3,542 on at

With the new VM it works with <OfflineAuthenticationAdminEmail>administrator@contosoax7.onmicrosoft.com</OfflineAuthenticationAdminEmail>

I also checked on some other VMs. Looks like that is an issue of the past. All VMs I checked were in a working state with "administrator@contosoax7.onmicrosoft.com".

And the error from that post is different than mine.

    1. Got a new VM
    2. Bug wasn't there
    3. Did a bunch of configuration - VM rename, DevOps mapping, DB restore etc
    4. Bug is back

Been stuck with this for 12hours plus.

I resolved this with a full build. I cannot fathom how it fixed the issue. But it is the case on both VMs. I understand and have been assured many times on this forum and on MS docs that it is never useful to do a full build. MS models cannot change so there is no sense in building them. And then I cannot understand how compiling some elements can cause a VS error to vanish.
