How to update Customer Financial dimension using CSV file import in D365 FO?

Hi,

I am trying to import multiple records for a Customer Financial dimension from a CSV file.

I have added a menu item in the application to import this data by selecting the CSV file.

I have found some post for reading from the csv. I need some help in importing dimension data from csv in D365 F&O.

Please suggest some solutions as I want to achieve this task using code.

Thanks in advance.

You can look at my blog below . It shows you how you can use code to create dimensions. You have to read values from csv and utilize code from blog to achieve your goal.

However , Using data management you can do it without coding. Take a look at existing entities how they import financial dimensions.

    Good Morning elaaki and Sukrut,

I have a couple of questions about this requirement:

    1. Why was a menu item created to import financial dimensions? Are you importing them on a regular basis? If so, what kind of financial dimensions do you refer to? Can you explain what needs to be imported regularly?

    2. Why you want to achieve this import by coding something? Also here I would like to know if this is a one time import or whether you will reuse the code for regular imports?

There are a lot of standard tools available for importing not only findims and I feel that people code by far too much. Therefore, I would like to understand better why.

Would be great if you could share some insights so that I can also understand :-)

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

    HI Ludwig ,

I already gave a suggestion about using  existing data management feature for this requirement instead of using coding . Refernece to code is something to get  the idea about how it can be done using coding. My preference is always about using existing tooling instead of writing code.

    Hi Ludwig,

    1. I have created a menu item for importing for a specific requirement but not on regular basis.

    2. This is a one time import.

    Thanks

I do agree with Sukrut and Ludwig here. Creating a menu item for a one time import while there are out of the box features is not best practice.

    Hi,

you have to define the financial dimension configuration for integration application in the general ledger\char of account\dimensions  menu

then, you export all the customers with the data management (customers v3)

you will find a field DEFAULTDIMENSIONDISPLAYVALUE

fill that field with the correct values of the financial dimensions separated by a "-"

finally you have to load the excel file with the data management.
