Importing a fob file into existing CRONUS demo database

Hi,

I am trying to import a fob file into my Demo Cronus application. The fob file is from a clients 2013 R1 system - I have 2013 R2.

I am using the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 development environment to do this.

Initially I tried setting up a brand new database to import into - but found that I didn't have permissions to read any of the objects e.g. got error message:

"You do not have permission to read the 'General Journal - Test' report"

"Contact your system administrator to have your permissions changed"

I think this means that I can't create any objects (the import worksheet shows all the actions as "Create").

Then I tried importing into the existing Cronus database - I get a conflicting objects message and the import worksheet comes up with all the items either marked as "Replace" or "Skip" - generally skip where the existing object is version NAVW17.10 and new object is "NAVW17.00".

Without making any changes to the worksheet - I select OK and then get error message:

"You have specified an unknown variable

UpdateQtyToShip

Define the variable under 'Global C/AL symbols"

Any advice please - is what I'm attempting to do possible with my existing license?

The license file shows it expiring 7/31/2022, with NAV 2013 Product Demo US configuration.

Thanks!

For the first error you must check the no. of objects available in your license. The permission errors while importing generally come due to the license.

For the second error, one of the objects which you are importing hasn't been compiled properly before being exported. You must compile this object and fix the errors and then try export and import.

Thank you Ishwar - so my licence is an issue.

Re the second error is there an easy way to identify the object that hasn't been compiled properly?

You need to have proper license and dbowner permission to create the objects into the database.

For your error related to UpdateQtyToShip it is because that function is referenced in one of your object that you are trying to import . It looks like that function is in Lanham E.D.I 14050701 codeunit, does your 2013 R1 has E.D.I module but not your 2013 R2 ? in that case you need to manually merge and remove that code to import the objects.

Yes, compile all objects before exporting them from NAV. A list with the objects with errors will be show up at the end of compilation. This list will be having Object Type, Object No., Object Name, Error details in it which will give you the exact idea where the compiling of a particular object failed.

I managed to resolve the error related to UpdateQtyToShip by using the "Replace All" button in the import worksheet - so the import runs all the way through. However I was disappointed to discover that the import hasn't created a new set of tables for me with the company that I was importing I still have just the 3 CRONUS company tables (CRONUS Canada, Mexico & USA).

This is not an option for me unfortunately as the file is from an external client.

Can you describe what you planning to do ?, by importing objects from a company to company will not create a new company. I think you are misguided.

OK I have a fob file from a client that I want to restore into a demo version I have of NAV. I was hoping that importing the fob file would create the client's company for me with all their data. I guess I'm expecting it to work like a SQL database backup that I am restoring and hoping to see the company within my version of NAV the same way the client can see it.
