Document number = Posted General Journal number

Is there any way to (easily) automatically change the Document No. to the (future, posted) G/L Register No?

So that the Doc No is equal to the G/L Register No.

I realize it could be done manually in the journal so that you look up what the next number that will come up next and just input it on the first row and F8 all the way down.

Thanks :)

I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

It is not possible to achieve that with a standard functionality.

You will need to make some modifications to achieve this, BUT, that idea has a little problem. You can have a G/L register with one number, but entries in that register can have different Document Nos.

Post one General Journal with different Document No in two rows, and you will see that they will be placed in the same register, but with a different doc. no.

I think that a better solution is to extend the GL Register with the additional column, and you can validate document no. in that field after creating the register, but leave G/L register no. unmodified.

    Greetings

    Hi Rasmus,

By setting the same number series for the General Journal batch as the G/L Register number, you can achieve this.

Posted General Journal page, Before assign new number series
    Please follow below steps.

    1. Create new no series. Set the starting number to be the last number used in the posted G/L Register."
    2. Assign that new created no series to the "General Journal batch"
    3. create batch and post it. Both number will be the same.

Just wondering why do you need this? It can only work if each register only has 1 document no. If you post a journal with multiple documents, then it doesn't work.

Customization can be done, but as Valentin mentioned, this can only get the next G/L Register No. (Only One).

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

Thanks for your input. I realize that changing the number series to be 1:1 would probably cause problems for most companies unless they work in a very specific way that works well with that kind of solution. Doing it automatically for every journal was not my intention even though that is essentially what I wrote in my post.

    Solution
    1. I think the solution needs to be customization as mentioned by you guys.
    - Perhaps similar to the "renumber number series" button which will simply renumber the series to the next G/L Register No.

    2. Or a small change in how the users work to work around the issue.

    Kind regards

Edit 1: I have marked suggested answers but as always it takes forever (at least when I do it) for it to change.

Edit 2: It turns out adding a column showing the Posted GL journal number to some views inside the Chart of Accounts module would achieve the actual goal. I was not aware of all the details previously. It still needs some extra code but it will solve the actual problem more elegantly.

It was still interesting to look at how to solve the problem that was discussed previously :) This is just for future reference if someone is thinking of a similar problem with the relationship Doc no-Post general journal no. Maybe it helps.
