Inventory dimensions cleanup

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how a functional user might use the Inventory dimensions cleanup job?  It can be found in Inventory and warehouse managment>Periodic>Clean up>Inventory dimensions cleanup.  Could someone explain what it does, how the records might be created, and why someone would want to clean up those records?  Thanks.

    Hi,

I have few inputs for you:

What it does --> This process deletes the records from InventDim table for all the inventDimID which are not used in the system. [Not  stored as InventDimID value in any other table having InventDimID field].

Please note there are no new records created in this process.

To know more about how inventDimID store inventory dimensions refer to this blog, it explains nicely about the concept of InventDimID

    basicax.blogspot.com.au/.../ax2012-understanding-inventdimid.html

How it does --> This process first populates a clean up table to store all the unused InventDimID in the system and then deletes the records of those inventDimID from the InventDim table

Why someone would like to do it --> If there is some junk/raw/bogus data existing in the InventDim table system, cleaning this table can improve performance of processes reading/writing/updating this table.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Rachit Garg
