How to search for a product based on product attribute values?

In the Attribute form of AX 2012 there are three check boxes related to search: 'Searchable', 'Can be queried' and 'Retrievable'. Technet states that these enable you, respectively, to search for a product, to return products with this attribute in search results, and to use the attribute in a query. In addition, in the FastTab Product attributes of the Procurement categories form, a check box 'Searchable' is available on the added attributes.

Enabling either one of these check boxes on an attribute itself or on an attribute added to a procurement category, there is - to my opinion - no reference to be found in the advanced filter to get a list of products based on one or more specified product attribute values . Hence, what do these check boxes mean in specific and how can they be useful?

I have exactly the same question, did you ever find a solution?

I suggest contact Synergy Software Systems who have customised this functionality to make it useful.

I have the same question.  We would like to search the attribute list for products assigned to a specific attribute.  Has anyone found a solution other than through modification?

Unfortunately, so far no one did.

Same question... what good are the product attributes if we can't filter/search/... on them?

Perhaps we have to set up a product catalog? https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh242092.aspx

"You can create your catalog's navigation structure by copying the procurement category hierarchy into a procurement catalog. The procurement categories that are copied become the catalog categories, and the vendors, products, and attributes that are associated with the procurement categories are automatically included in your catalog."

This is an older thread, but I'm working on these again and stumbled on this thread.

The "searchable" and "can be queried" are parms related to retail catalogs and how Sharepoint consumes the data for presentation later, it wont affect the functionality of the client.

If you want to be able to search for products based on attribute values, the easiest way is to expose the EcoResProductAttributesValues query via Document Data Sources so you can pull the data into Excel.

In designer mode on the add-in, Right click -> Properties -> Show calculated fields.  You'll be able to pull down everything you've stored for attributes.

Hi Colby, this looks interesting, but I don't find the EcoResProductAttributesValues table when I'm adding a table via the Dynamics Ax Excel Add-In...

However, you mention it's a query? How do I get access to this query?

This is what tables pop up in the Excel Dynamics Ax Add-In when I do add tables, and filter "EcoRes":

    ecores2.PNG

    ecores3.PNG

When I do "Personalise" in the Product Attributes window in Ax, I get this (and it shows indeed the EcoResProductAttributesValues - so it's gotta be there somewhere)

    Thanks for your help.

Adriaan - To activate the query go to Organization Administration -> Setup -> Document Management -> Document Data Sources.  Add a new row like this and click the "Activate" button.

    Add_2D00_Data.jpg

Then in Excel -> Dynamics AX tab -> Add Data -> Add Data (NOT Add-Tables), select your query and click "OK".

    Add_2D00_Data.jpg

Then you will immediately be placed in "Design Mode" where the "Design" button is highlighted.  Right mouse click-> Properties on the very top table name in the field list, tick the "Show calculated fields" option.  You'll now see any display methods that exist on the the tables in the query.

Add the fields you want, exit design mode, refresh.
