I think you are talking about the different configuration technology to develop product masters and to configure distinct products.

Even though I am not absolutely sure what you are looking for in regards to configuration technology (for items/products, your system, etc.), I would recommend having a look at MS docs where you can find an extensive documentation about basically everything.
