I've been tasked to install MS Dynamics 2009 R2. This will not be an upgrade, as our current Navision servers are very outdated. I was lucky enough to get the SQL server done and it appears to work. My question is, what is this "second" server even used for and what components need to get installed on it? I'm a Citrix guy so please don't be too harsh. Thank you in advance for any information you might be able to provide.

Happy to help,
So yes, SQL on the one box and what i have listed above on the other :)
Thank you Neville for the information. I have two separate servers, one SQL and the other the "application" server. I guess what I'm actually looking for is simply what component gets loaded on which server. The client seems pretty straight forward but it was the app server that was making me scratch my head. Thank you very much for your input; this is great information.
NAV is a 3 tier system, this means that there is a SQL server, an Application middle tier, and the client machine
Depending on the setup and performance requirements you might have SQL and the middle tier running on the same machine
You need to install the Role Tailored Client and Server components from the disk, not a bad idea to put the classic client on as well
Did you follow the install instructions?
