Rename Table in AX, update in SQL

Hello,

What is the proper way to rename an existing Custom table (with existing data and without) in AX and have the same name reflected in SQL?  Can you also explain why "XBS_" is getting added in front of the table name in SQL, but it is not in AX that way?  I appreciate your help.  AX 2012 R3 CU8

    Hi cvandy23,

I have never seen tables with this prefix in standard AX, so it looks like a customization.

    To rename a table:

Go to AOT -> select table you want to rename -> right clikc - > rename.

After that you need to synchronize this table and AX will automatically reflect all changes in SQL. ( to synch right click on table in AOT -> synchronize ).

Thank you. I resolved it. Our table name had an underscore in the prefix in AX "_customtable_name" and in SQL it automatically converted it to "XBS_customtable_name" which is obviously not what we named it. There must be something written that if the first character in the table is ' _ ' then it will add this. Thank you.

    Hi cvandy23,

It wont happen in Ax with Different name in Sql and Ax for one table.

You can try restarting the Sql and synchronize your Data dictionary.

    Thanks,

    Hey cvandy23,

It's strange, I just created table with name "_Table1" and SQL name was "XTable1". I don't know why do you have "XBS_" prefix :)

If your issue is solved could you please close this thread by marking one answer or more as verified.

    Suresh,

I know it shouldn't do that,  but automatically it does. Create a table in AX with _ in front of the name (I had 2 in my complete name), then sync and find it in SQL ;-)

    Hi Ievegn,

Thank you for testing this out. I agree it is strange. I feel like I found a hidden feature. Haha. The underscore in the front of the table has a special power, lol.  I couldn't figure out why the table would not show in SQL, we'll it's because it was a different name.  We ideally want this to be an option to have the _,  so it would be great if anyone can figure out how to get that to work. Thank you.

And what is your current issue ?

If you want to get SQL table name from ax you can use

    print new DictTable(tableNum(_customtable_name)).name(DbBackend::Sql);
