Derived books, purchase order

Hi everyone,

I´ve been testing the derived books functionality to acquire a fixed asset trough a purchase order but not to Current posting layer.  E.g.: acquire a vehicle first to custom layer 1 and then using "derived books" to custom layer 2.  Is this possible?  I´ve supposed that is not possible because D365 need to balance the voucher with the account payable and tax transactions, but I´m not sure and need to justify why D365 can´t do that.  Currently, I received this message when trying to post the PO invoice: "The transaction posting layer specified on the transaction voucher XXX must be the Current posting layer."

I would appreciate if somebody could help me.

Regards!

Kenneth

    Hi Keneeth,

Yes it is possible using derived book with following setups:

    1. Create Book with current layer and Map another book in derived book with lets say "Tax Layer"

    2. Setup posting profile for both books (You may not require to setup offset account for "Acquisition" transaction type for current layer book but for Tax layer you need to define the " Offset Account" where "Credit " balance will go while posting acquisition journal for Current layer automatically for Tax layer as well

    3. Post acquisition entry lets say Debit asset with Current layer book and credit Bank/vendor in offset , in this case "tax layer" book will not consider the offset account specified in journal but it will take from posting profile.

    Hi Saurabh,

Thanks, yes it works this way.  The point is that I don´t want to post the acquisition to current layer, just to a, lets say "Tax layer" and then -using derived book- to "operations layer"... is this possible? seems like isn't, at least no through purchase order.

    Hi Kenneth,

When posting the PO, the current layer is used. There is no selection criteria for that.

What might work is the following:

    1. Post the acquisition in the current layer on book1

    2. Create a correction book1 and post the reversal of that book1 in the correction book by making use of the derived book functionality and switching the ledger account setup.

    3. Post the acquisition in the derived tax book by making use of the derived book functionality

No 1 and 2 make sure that the net book value in the current layer is zero and that you have a value in the tax book only.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

I tried your suggestion, just made the acquisition on the current and secondary layer, but din´t post the current layer reversal.  Thank you for confirming how this work on the purchase order.

In the other hand, I´ve created a PO line and selected in that line a book that was connected with a secondary layer, but the invoice was posted in current layer… this could be confusing for users, that may think that is posting to the layer of the book.

    Regards,

    Kenneth
