Viewing report in Normal view

ReportReport
Posted on by

Hi,

Is there any setting while print some report, that instead viewing in Normal, it is showing in Page Preview like ? What I mean Normal is like there is no page size boundary so that our column can spread whatever numbers it has.

I experience weird thing that suddenly my reports all is in Page Preview, so some of the columns falls into the next page. also the hyperlink in that case is not working.

Thanks

I have the same question (0)

    Hi WWong,

    To enable the hyperlinks please go to 'Feature management' and select the following option.

    RE: Viewing report in Normal view

    Hi Sergei,

    Understand this Power BI thing. But provided we need to use Power BI just come to mind, in that case, how to response / adapt / resolve to that Page Preview Report Viewer for the existing report ? Since there are many report which are meant for display to screen with the benefit of no page width limit.

    Probably can I open again this case for everyone, just looking for some advise.

    Or is it better a new topic ?

    Thanks,

    Hi WWwong,

    You need to start looking at PowerBI capabilities.

    Hi both,

    Ok, so I think we just have to embrace it.

    But just it is quite disappointing because then we cannot use Hyperlink and expand and collapse. What to do with that ? It's like we are forced to print (or at least seeing as printed) while we are encourage to leave this "printing habit".

    It's like back to old tech, unless there is some new way that I don't know yet.

    Thanks,

    Hi WWwong,

    Did you receive e-mail from MS that a certain environment will be updated to Self-Service architecture? If you did not opt-out you can't revert it. Anyway, in a couple of months, all customers will be moved to Self-Service architecture.

    Hi WWwong,

    I´m not sure if you can choose on your own to get a self service environment or not. As far as I know this is the way it will work in future. All new customers will get it. Maybe you can check with the MS support, probably they have some possibilities...

    RE: Viewing report in Normal view

    Hi Christoph,

    This is very interesting, yet somehow discouraging because of the "dismiss" interactive features. But I got informed the other day that my environment was going to Self Service Deploy. So meaning to say it is because of that ? Can we switch back?

    Also I'm quite confuse on this part :

    // Note, if user already open the print mgmt settings dialog to give print destination settings,

    // it will not his this redirection logic because there is no setting for Screen.

    Is there anything to "somewhat avoid" this ? and where I can find this code ?

    Anyway Thank you very much for this finding, it was greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    and some additional information here: docs.microsoft.com/.../infrastructure-stack

    The document preview experience has been improved to deliver greater fidelity with the printed output. Before this change, documents viewed on screen were displayed using an HTML viewer. Although the HTML format supported interactive functions like embedded drill-thru links and collapsible sections, this was not a true representation of the document rendered by the service. With the new embedded PDF Viewer, customers have access to a preview that's consistent with the printed documents. For more information, see Preview PDF documents with an embedded viewer.

    Based on a discussion in Yammer it seems to be related with the type of environment you have. https://www.yammer.com/dynamicsaxfeedbackprograms/#/Threads/show?threadId=180427397267456&search_origin=global&scoring=linear1Y-prankie-group-private-higher&match=any-exact&search_sort=relevance&page=1&search=Print%20AND%20destination%20AND%20settings%20AND%20screen

    Looks like your environment is one of the newer Service Fabric machines, probably Self Service. Looking through the code I see this:

    // If the current environment host is service fabric and print destination is set to screen,

    // we will redirect the print destination to PDF file and display warning message on the UI.

    // Note, if user already open the print mgmt settings dialog to give print destination settings,

    // it will not his this redirection logic because there is no setting for Screen.

    if(SrsReportRunUtil::isServicFabricHostingEnvironment())

    {

    // xxx

    }

    RE: Viewing report in Normal view

    Hi WWwong,

    I just did some further research and found this. Sounds like this is the new experience about reporting. www.yammer.com/.../

    We have some exciting news to share with our Analytics & Reporting community. Click here for more details. In short, the next wave of investments in document reporting represents a significant advancement in the evolution of the Cloud hosted service. Back in PU23, we announced that we were Deprecating the Report Viewer control in anticipation of this upcoming change. And since then, we've made significant improvements in the service infrastructure to extend document generation capabilities.

    Note: As of PU36, we will discontinue support for interactive features like embedded drill-down & drill-thru links, sub reports, and nested regions in document reports rendered by the Cloud hosted service. By default, paginated reports and documents will be displayed to screen using the embedded PDF viewer.

    Hi Blue,

    No it's not On-Premise.

    Thanks
