Web tracking: How contact becomes a "known contact"?

Hi,

As per the below article web visits and clicks are shown under Contact Insights once contacts becomes a KNOWN CONTACT.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/marketing/insights#contact-insights

What are the exact methods how contact becomes a known contact in Dynamics for Marketing?

Meaning, what are the actions contact needs to take exactly, to become a known contact?

Many thanks for your comments in advance!

Best regards,

Tiina

    Hi Tiina,

You may also find details described in this documentation article: docs.microsoft.com/.../register-engagement

As contact de-anonymization relies on cookies this article might help you to gt more information about how we handle cookies for visitors identification and tracking:  docs.microsoft.com/.../cookies

    Hello Tiina,

an 'unknown visitor' of a marketing page is tracked and the visit recorded, but it could not be associated to an existing contact. This happens if there is not visitor cookie on the visitors device that would allow this association.

As soon as this visitor though submits a marketing form through a landing page, then the submission will try to match the visitor to an existing contact based on the matching strategy. Now the previously anonymous visits will be attached to a previously known contact.

If the contact matching did not identify an existing contact, then a new contact / lead will be created, and the anonymous visitor move into the known contact though this path.
