Good morning,
why are Dimension columns not exported to Excel with Microsoft Excel Dynamics Add-in installed?
Thank you!
Andrea

Which table you are exporting? In some cases (e.g. unposted document lines) dimensions are shown as calculated fields.
Since they are not table fields they are not exported in Excel with the built-in function.
so what does it take to get dimensions to export to Excel, always?
they are critical fields for most analysis functions.
You need to handle them as field, extending the underlying table, or you need to develop a customer process to export the data in Excel
Hi,
Which is the Dimension you are talking about and from which page, you are exporting to excel?
The page I am trying to export is the General Ledger Entries (Page 20, Table 17).
But it seems to me that it doesn't matter the table. Dimensions themselves won't be exported anyway.
Hi Andrea,
I think terminology can be deceiving. How many dimensions do you use in your company? The 2 global ones or more than 2? If the latter are you expecting to see the other ones (after 1 and 2) come out to Excel as well?
If you see the dimension values on the screen is that a standard screen or maybe customized by your partner?
Regards,
Cristi Nicola
I don't know about his requirements, but we USED to be able to get:
Consolidated Company
Corporation
Location
Department
Sub-department
Account
Sub-account (aka project code aka promotional campaign...)
For EVERY transaction.
Needless to say, not anymore.
Made it tremendously easy to see results overall, and drilldown on those results easily.
Now? Change companies, navigate to whatever you're looking for, change company again...and nevermind project accounting or sub-department level reporting.
I always feel like I'm looking through a corridor of keyholes to see what is happening.
Is it really so costly in processing power to have extra dimensions?
Hi Raokman,
The processing power for dimensions depends on a lot of variables. It is way better in 2013 and up ... Also, depends on the number of users and the number of transactions you per x period of time.
But ultimately NAV can handle a lot properly tuned (if maybe not out of the box). So if you really needed the dimensions for your analysis then you should do it and then figure if there is locking or a performance hit.
Also, since you mention changing companies, it seems your data is in multiple companies. To put all that data together (and bring all the keyholes and corridors together) you should just invest in a BI solution. Especially if G/L is your focus any of the products would give you 90%+ out of the box.
The Global Dimension 1 and 2 will be exported. Other Dimensions are not stored in the General Ledger Entries, so those cannot be exported using the standard addon, you need to customize either a report or dataport.
we are using 6 dimensions (2 globals + 4 linked).
Screen is standard.
The thing I do not understand is why without the addon the list is exported without problems... Is it because with the addon table and Excel file are linked together (maybe I'm answering myself)?
Thank you.
