Upgrade of AX2009 to AX2012R3 no Development Workspace

I am trying to do an upgrade of a 2009 environment to a 2012 R3.

After installing the AOS and other necessary components, I open the first time the client and see the known checklist.

However, I cannot open a development workspace (CTRL+D) even though the licence files have been loaded and I have the correct developer licence.

In a former upgrade (of another customer) from 2009 to 2012RTM, opening the development workspace was possible during upgrade checklist process.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong OR if this behaviour is "normal" for a 2012R3 install/upgrade.

Kr,

Sven

    Hi ,

You can add the term -development as the last value in the AX32.exe-->properties-->target.

    Also refer below

    Hi Rudra,

I'm sure that Sven is referring to a 'Direct upgrade using the source-to-target model'. After creating the target environment and opening the upgrade cockpit (but before connecting to the source database) he is not able to start a development workspace. I know that upgrading from 2009 to 2012 RTM you could start the development workspace in between. With 2012 R3 this option seems to fail.

Using the flag -development doesn't solve this one.

Can anyone help Sven further ?

    Thanks.

    Loek.

    Is your license expired?

Nope, license is valid till 31/07/2014.

Is your upgrade checklist is completed without any pending task

also try double check with Ctrl+Shift+W

One AOS instance or with multiple aos load balancing servers?

    Hi all,

thanks for the replies, however all of the options are in place:

    - licence file loaded ok and valid till 31/07/2014

    - also tried the -development option

However, the list with checks is not finished, but that was actually part of the question.

In an upgrade from 2009 to 2012RTM, the development workspace was immediately available, even though the list hadn't been completed yet.

In 2012R3, we cannot access the development workspace.

So, I was wondering if this is "normal" (in 2012R3), OR if we are doing something wrong.

    Kr,

    Sven

Hello Sven - the behavior you are seeing isn't what we consider normal, but we have seen it happen before in other support cases. We have a ticket logged to investigate it with the development team currently. We also have seen the following work successfully to launch the developer workspace. With AX 2012 R3 for some reason when in this state, adding the -development option to the command line within a shortcut does not seem to be working.

However, starting a command prompt as an Administrator and then issuing the command line path from a command prompt does seem to work from our experience. So your command executed within the command prompt would be something like this:

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Client\Bin\Ax32.exe" -development

    Hi Kevin,

You are absolutely right about launching the client in administrator mode. This is the key to open the developer workspace.

    Great work guys.

Many thanks to all your contributions, this makes my day !!

    Kr,

    Loek.

    Kevin,

Is it only working through command prompt by run as administrator, i hope then it will also work if we open the AX32.exe file directly with option run as administrator right.
