Hello,
It is common to have multiple customers for a single project at our organization. Since customer is a single value field in F&O, how can this be done?
Thanks
Hi George,
Can you please help us in explaining the exact business scenario? Project will be executed for multiple customers? Billing will be done for one customer or all customers?
Hi Saurabh,
Yes, only one customer will be billed but the the same project might be executed for multiple customers such as in the case of huge urban planning projects that span multiple sectors and wide areas. Any recommendation on the implementation of this?
Thanks again
Hello George,
Each project is linked to a project contract.
Each project contract can have multiple funding sources, such as 2, 3, 4 ... customers, funds, etc.
When you use more than a single funding source a specification is necessary that defines what % of the revenues will be covered by each funding source.
And for larger projects especially in the investment sector, multiple customers (funding sources) are common.
Best regards,
Ludwig
Thank you for the clarification Ludwig. So what can be done in the scenario when there are multiple customers who do not fund the project. For example, assume there is a project with 3 customers. Only one of those customers funds the project while the other 2 are just customers that do not get billed. Do you recommend that all 3 customers be added in the project contract? If so, then what is the use of the CustAccount field in the ProjTable?
May be you can explore following options:
1. Having parent customer for Main project and sub-customer for sub-Project
2. Different funding options available
Hi George.D.,
If only one single customer is billed then don't setup the others at the project contract level.
Why would you do that?
If this is an information that you need then you can possibly create a note or document attachment.
The customer field that you see in the project is a default value that can inherit specific things from your customer into the project.
It does, however, not influence how invoicing is done as this is defined by the project contract and (billing) rules that you might have setup there.
Note: In previous versions it was not possible to setup more than a single funding source (customer) at the project contract level. In those times we already had the default customer field available in the project. As a result we had a 1:1 relationship between the customers in the contract and what you see in this field. Nowadays things have been improved and we can setup multiple customers, funds and even business divisions that cover parts of the total project costs.
Eventually, you can create multiple funding sources without split percentages. But, this can be error prone.
I wonder if you need more than only some additional customers. I have seen some customizations in the past were it was possible to add project contacts. Then it was possible to have a list of internal and external contacts specified with their respective role on the project.
