MRP taking three times as long to run

We're running AX 2009 here, and normally when my user runs an MRP job (Master Planning -> Master Scheduling) it will take about 20 minutes.  Recently, it's been taking about an hour to complete now.

I searched around on the Internet and I saw references to a fragment database, so I defragged the database as best as I could but the job is still taking the same amount of run time.  I'm currently running a consistency check but do not have the results yet.

I'm fairly new to AX, so I'm not sure what else to check or how to troubleshoot the issue.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Howard

Did Any changes/customizations made on Application? you can chIeck using code profiler or also can check in SQL profiler, which statement is taking time.

It might be coz volume of data. you can schedule master planning in batch.

Ajit, thank you for the reply.  There were no changes/customizations were made to the application that I am aware of.

I'm trying to learn how to use SQL Profiler now (thanks to your suggestion) to see if it's something taking forever, but not sure what events to trace specifically.  I'm seeing a lot of "Report Server" activity and I'm not sure if that's because of AX running commands that are triggering it, so I'm filtering them out for now.

I don't know what the difference is between just clicking on "Master Scheduling" and running it in batch.  Not even sure how to schedule something to run in batch.  How would running it in batch be different from clicking on it?  Does it run it differently?

    Thanks again.

Howard, when you run the MRP, one dialog will popup and there is a tab called batch, I that tab we have a checkbox calledc "batch*", just check that check box and click ok. Before doing that please check Admin-setup- server configuration and see whether "IsBatch" is checked or not. That should be checked for running batch jobs.

Have you tried running a DBCC FREEPROCCACHE just prior to running Master Planning in each company?  If that works, then please post a response and I can tell you how to fix it permanently.

In the Master Plans you can see the session information. Have a look at the last one and look at one that took 20 minutes and start looking at what has changed, it could be as simple as more items, more BOMs and changed coverage groups.
