Cannot retrieve shared assets from LCS asset Library

ReportReport

Hi all,

I upload Power BI report file (PBIX) to LCS within my project. Then when I went to F&O > Deploy Power BI files, it give me error : Cannot retrieve shared assets from LCS library. Project ID xxxxx. User abc. Please contact your administrator.

May I know what error is this ?

Checking to System Administration > Setup > System Parameters -> Help, it already connected to LCS and I already have the authorization (by click the "Connect to LCS")

Please Help.

I have the same question (1)

    Hi Tony,

Are you working on a cloud hosted version or a locally hosted dev VM?

    Hi Tony,

You are using the same account in LCS and also for accessing Dynamics 365? Did you save it in the LCS project or the shared assets? The error mentions it can't retrieve shared assets.

RE: Cannot retrieve shared assets from LCS asset Library

    Hello Tony,

Had this problem a zillion times, while trying to deploy PowerBI reports from the F&SCM. The issue is with permissions that is related to the account you use to login to F&SCM and to LCS. Every time, there is a LCS license granted there is an administrator account which looks like this (<adminuseraccount>.<clientorprojectname>.onmicrosoft.com). Check which user has been granted those credentials. This user should also be the PowerBI.com Pro license administrator. Ensure that this user grants you the same permissions as <adminuseraccount>.<clientorpojectname>.onmicrosoft.com.

Only this user has the credentials to publish reports from F&SCM.

    A couple of other questions:

    1. Ensure that your permissions in the Office 365 admin center/Microsoft 365 admin center -> PowerBI is same as <adminuseraccount>.<clientforprojectname>.onmicrosoft.com.
    2. Do you receive any message when you hit the refresh next to the LCS Project ID under System Administration -> Setup -> System Parameters? If no, then your permissions granted to the LS projects is fine.
    3. Have you enabled PowerBI through the Azure portal (App registration -> PowerBI API) or through https://dev.powerbi.com/apps? If you have enabled PowerBI through the Azure Portal then ensure that you have the right API permissions granted to the PowerBI API.

    Thanks,

    Thanks  Andre and Navneeth,

I did using the same account accessing the LCS project and F&O.

Actually I'm not sure about the requirement of Power BI Pro license, do we need Pro license to deploy Power BI files through F&O ? but then again what I have now is Power BI Pro license as well, so it is hard or me to test.

What I can tell for sure is :

    1. the user id is same for all, LCS, F&O, and Power BI

    2. For System parameters, it is already being set, and at the moment I do not have "guts" and "authority" to Refresh it, since the warning is scary. But the warning mentioned if I don't have access, but I did have.

    3. Yes, Power BI is enabled, App registration is done, only not by me, but if I go to menu PowerBI.com configuration, whilst it is set, it also not prompt me to sign in to Power BI (the blue box of Power BI sign in), which I believe my user id is fine. I also try for F&O standard Power BI report like Customer & credit collection Workspace, it is working just fine.

    4. for this testing, I upload PBIX to both Shared asset library and to the said project Asset library.

Kindly advice what do I need to check further.

    Thanks,

You need a PowerBI Pro license to deploy PowerBI files through F&SCM. The reason being you need to extend these reporting capabilities to an app workspace in PowerBI. The reports later need to be distributed to an app workspace in PowerBI. This app workspace capability is available in a PowerBI pro license.

Regarding point number 2 and point number 3.

    1.  For System parameters, it is already being set, and at the moment I do not have "guts" and "authority" to Refresh it, since the warning is scary. But the warning mentioned if I don't have access, but I did have.

For System parameters, when you hit the Refresh button it refreshes your connection to the LCS project and also refreshes the LCS activities. You can try doing this in the GOLD environment (if any) or the UAT environment. It only flashes a warning. Nothing to worry about.

    2.
Try signing into PowerBI through that bluebox PowerBI sign-in. If it throws an error on login, then you don't have the credentials to deploy PowerBI reports because this step verifies the credentials assigned to the user trying to deploy PowerBI reports. You can again test this in the GOLD environment (if any) or the UAT environment.

    Fair enough.

What still bug me is actually this error happened before I even have not start to Deploy yet. In the moment I open the menu Deploy Power BI, its not even listed yet, throw error "cannot retrieve shared asset from LCS" while I tried dozen time, go in my LCS, into the very same environment, to shared Asset library, or to the project Asset library.

And I uploaded my self the PBIX (in both library), but the error saying they cannot retrieve asset library.

    Thanks.
