Multi-lingual portal - CRM Portals 8.1

Hello community,

Has anyone had any luck configuring a multi-lingual portal (in my case, Customer Portal) with the new portals for CRM 2016 Update 1? I followed the example of the documentation
https://community.adxstudio.com/products/adxstudio-portals/documentation/developers-guide/knowledge-base/cms-replication-multi-regional-websites/
but obviously that is for on-premise and not cloud based.

I have my 2 sites setup in CRM, one has English language, and one has French language. French language has partial URL of /fr. (Ex. English is www.example.com, French is www.example.com/fr). Only one website binding exists, which points to the English site.

The French site is a child site of the English site, and all pages on the French site all have the master template based on the English site.

The problem is, when I'm on the English site, and I switch to the French site, the language doesn't change to French. It stays English, I'm assuming based on the setting of the "parent" site of the French site because if I switch the English site to the French language, the site gets translated correctly.

Has anyone had luck properly configuring the online portals to make it multi-lingual? I don't have an issue with translating the page content, it's more of a matter of forms/dropdowns/date formats that use the regional settings.

Any success stories?

The other issue I'm having is with Subjects, can't find a way to have them display in multiple languages. Products is OK because you can translate them within CRM, but Subjects there doesn't seem to have an option to do so. I know we can use option sets and other workarounds, but I would have thought out of the box there would be the ability to translate subjects.

I'm also looking for information about how to configure CRM portals multilanguage. I know in ADXStudio you need a different user for each language you want to setup but, I do not know how to do that I need CRM Portals.

I had opened up a ticket with Microsoft and they stated that the Parent/Child relationship for the websites, as is stated on ADXStudio's website, does not behave the same way for CRM Portals 8.1. The language of the "parent" website setup within CRM is the main language that is used for the parent and all children websites, even if the child website states a different language.

The workaround is to create "x" websites with "x" unique website bindings, where "x" is the number of languages you need to support. Supposedly a future update is going to make the portals more multilingual.
