Hello,
We have a number of Retail Purchase Orders that are not able to post giving us this extremely generic error, would anyone know why?

Raokman,
This would be applicable with any of the ERP system worldwide. System keeps on improving due to every changing minds / needs from the client.
I think, you might need to find out the right people, who can deliver timely / right solution to you, so that you can have more comforts / confident with the system...
It's not that complicated, the way we really think.[/quote]
In what ERP system do drop-down lists for a selection include non-valid choices?
In Excel, it is called Data Validation, and the selections shown include only VALID choices.
In my experience, only NAV thinks a drop-down list should include everything, not just valid choices.
It's like they downloaded the OED once, and then used it for every drop down list in the program.
This is just lazy programming.
It allowed me to post after making everything nontaxable. So I created another G/L line for GST.

I encountered a similarly obtuse error message myself:
"An error occurred during local report processing.
The Hidden expression used in text box 'textbox1' returned a data type that is not valid."
So I turned to my 'partner' who took 4 days to get back to me.
Turns out that the drop-down list for available filters includes not only VALID filter fields, but ALL fields, and I was selecting a filter that wasn't on the Account Card. Running a Trial Balance and I wanted to filter by Location, but even though "Location" was 'available' per the drop down, it wasn't 'really' available. Result: error message that seems to blame our local hardware.
Yeah, 'partners' are great, and Microsoft is improving things (this is an issue that goes back generations of NAV).
Microsoft might also want to review the capitalization rules as applicable in the English language. Just some advice.
@raokman: your comment is not helpful. Only write posts if you want to help. This forum is meant for people who need advise with issues like that.
"one wonders how an ordinary user is supposed to deal with such an error message encountered in the course of an ordinary work day."
That is why it is recommended to sign the service level agreement with a Dynamics NAV partner. When a issue like this arise, NAV partner will be able to help and sort the issue for you.
Adding to that, Microsoft always encourage to go for upgrades (at least CU updates) because Microsoft always improve the product with various fixes and features.
This is a known issue in the 2009 version.

Hi Edward,
Is there any customization in the Codeunit - 12 ( Gen. Jnl.-Post Line)?
You need help of your IT team or NAV supporting partner.
They would do the required technical code changes or apply the hotfixes provided by Microsoft to resolve the error.
Hope this helps.
Raokman, there can be even more provocative messages. "There is nothing to post" is one of my favorite :-).
