Hello,

We have a number of Retail Purchase Orders that are not able to post giving us this extremely generic error, would anyone know why?

Have you checked with Single Instance Codeunit and see the G/L entries being created by system?

This could be due to rounding setups or localisations or Customizations.

To overcome, check the G/L entries being generated while posting using single instance codeunit.  Pl. check in test environment and see the results.

You can get so many links / blogs for single instance codeunit, if at all needed.

Once you identify the additional entris being generated by the system, you can get it rectified via setups or technical code changes.

Latest NAV versions can be check for the required technical code comparison and related solutions.

    Hope this helps.

one wonders how an ordinary user is supposed to deal with such an error message encountered in the course of an ordinary work day.

If you work with NAV 2009, check this:

Raokman, there can be even more provocative messages. "There is nothing to post" is one of my favorite :-).

You need help of your IT team or NAV supporting partner.

They would do the required technical code changes or apply the hotfixes provided by Microsoft to resolve the error.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Edward,

Is there any customization in the Codeunit - 12 ( Gen. Jnl.-Post Line)?

"one wonders how an ordinary user is supposed to deal with such an error message encountered in the course of an ordinary work day."

That is why it is recommended to sign the service level agreement with a Dynamics NAV partner. When a issue like this arise, NAV partner will be able to help and sort the issue for you.

Adding to that, Microsoft always encourage to go for upgrades (at least CU updates) because Microsoft always improve the product with various fixes and features.

@raokman: your comment is not helpful. Only write posts if you want to help. This forum is meant for people who need advise with issues like that.

I encountered a similarly obtuse error message myself:

"An error occurred during local report processing.

The Hidden expression used in text box 'textbox1' returned a data type that is not valid."

So I turned to my 'partner' who took 4 days to get back to me.

Turns out that the drop-down list for available filters includes not only VALID filter fields, but ALL fields, and I was selecting a filter that wasn't on the Account Card.  Running a Trial Balance and I wanted to filter by Location, but even though "Location" was 'available' per the drop down, it wasn't 'really' available.  Result: error message that seems to blame our local hardware.

Yeah, 'partners' are great, and Microsoft is improving things (this is an issue that goes back generations of NAV).

Microsoft might also want to review the capitalization rules as applicable in the English language.  Just some advice.
