Service Item Pricing

I am new to AX and need you help with Pricing of Service Items in AX 2012 R3.

My questions are:

1) I want to centrally manage pricing for all the items (Item type and Service type). How do I achieve this? Also, How do I account pricing for Service Item i.e. where should I mentioned cost price and sale price? Should I use journal OR directly mention it at purchase and sell tab in the item master form?

2) If I change the price, then a request should be sent to Pricing Manager for approval. Once approved, then only the new price should be updated in AX. How do I achieve this. What type of Workflow should I use?

Please help.

Thanks,

Raju

    Hi Raju,

A central form for managing all your item prices can be found in the inventory module under setup=>costing versions. You can track all your purchase/cost/sales prices there.

What this form does not include is a workflow approval process. Yet, once you record prices in a costing version they are saved first as so-called "pending prices" that need activation. If you only give your pricing manager the right to activate pending prices you can achieve what you want in my opinion.

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

In addition to using the Costing version as Ludwig suggested, consider using a Price/discount journal for your sales and purchase pricing via Trade agreements.

The advantage of Trade agreements is that they can be specific to customers (or vendors), customer groups (or vendor groups), specific dates (activated in the future, etc., and tracking historical pricing), and even quantity breaks, none of which can be done through the Costing version.  If your pricing needs are more complex than just having a single sales and purchase price regardless of account, time, or quantity, then Trade agreements may be a better fit for managing your pricing.  Price/discount journals also need to be posted for their changes to become effective, which may lend to your review and approval needs.

The Costing version remains the best place to manage your cost, especially in the case of Standard cost.

    Thanks Ludwig,

So this is what I understand from your comment.

I should use costing version where I create a record for all the items (both item type and service type). This will create a central repository for all the items along with its prices.

    Right?

    Thanks Brandon.

We can use workflow along with Price/Discount journals for review and approval process  - Is this what you mean?

If yes, how do I use workflow along with journals. I don't see any option while posting a price/discount journal.  Request you to be a little more elaborate.

    Thanks!!

    Yes.

What you need to make sure though is that only your pricing manager has the right to activate new prices. This can be achieved by modifying the standard AX roles.

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

In my requirement, a procurement person is responsible for creating the record. How will the Pricing Manager get to know that there is a pending price which needs his approval. Is there any approval/workflow process that I can associate for this?

    Hello Raj,

That is an issue because there is no standard workflow available for that. Theoretically, you could use standard alerts but that would flood your pricing manager with information. So you either develop something or generate an organizational regulation outside of AX that the pricing manager need to be informed.

    All the best,

    Ludwig

    Thanks Ludwig and Brandon.

I think I can take it up from here.
