RSAT command line with Task recorder

Dear community,

Does anybody have any experience with running a task recorder in power shell in order to apply the recorded changes to a target VM? I have an *.axtr file and after I did some research I found out that if I change the name to .zip I can find inside the Recording.xml. Now I don't know if it's possible but I would like to use command line to execute this task record to a target VM. Do you think it's possible to use a task recorder with RSAT in order to apply a configuration to a target VM via command line?

Thank you,

Codrin

    Hi Codrin,

If I understand you correctly, you want to change data in another environment. RSAT is a tool for regression testing. If you want to update or add data, you can consider using Power Automate or the Excel add-in.

What is the exact reason that you want to use a command line?

    Hi André,

I know that RSAT is used for regression testing but, we would like to use it as a tool to configure different parameters for new requirements when they are about to be released on different environments so we would not do this by hand everytime. We would like to use DevOps to deploy the configurations to each environment.

Do you think that is wrong to do that? I know that are also other tools but what would be the best way to go in this direction in your opinion?

    Regards,

    Codrin

    Hi Codrin,

You can use the Data Export and Import features. When you create a data package, you can save it in your LCS asset library and execute it to be imported in one or more environments.

Process and consume data packages in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations apps solution - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Docs

You can also import the configurations using the Data Management features directly.

I don't think Microsoft will support using RSAT on a production environment.
