How can the field "Exclude from inventory value" be used on an inventory transaction (Noticed that this field can be added to the grid).

How can the field "Exclude from inventory value" be used on an inventory transaction?

I noticed this field on the inventory transaction form. The question behind this question is that a customer would like to exclude certain transactions from the weighted average calculation because it would skew the weighted average. For example when there is an emergency purchase at a way higher price then normal. Can this be achieved in some way (excluding this single transaction from the weighted avg. calculation)?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Tini,

You can't use this field for your requirement. Why do you want to 'play' with the weighted average? Are you using the correct inventory model if you want to determine what should be the cost price?

If the 'Financial' checkbox is enabled on the warehouse as part of the storage dimension group, you can consider using another warehouse for these emergency purchases and sell/consume it also from this separate warehouse.

You can also adjust the cost via the Inventory closing form or use a separate item.

However, if you have a higher price, it should be any valuated in a correct way. For all adjustments you plan to do, check with your accountant what would be allowed or not. You have to meet the accounting rules.

    Hello TiniBosch,

If I read your question then I cannot get rid of the feeling that you want to 'manipulate' your inventory values.

There might be a justification for this but rather than trying to mess around with the data in the inventory module, can't you simply post a correction on a special GL account that puts your inventory value down?

You will have to explain things to your auditors anyway and personally, I would prefer keeping those 'adjustments/manipulations' separate by posting it in GL only.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Hello André, thanks for your response. I agree that it looks like playing with the weighted average (or manipulating as Ludwig calls it in his post/reply). As I understood from the customer this is a highly occasional/rare situation and not common practice (Thus, there is no need to change the valuation method to standard cost for example). Therefore I'll guide them to the functions available in the closing and adjustment periodic task. Then an explanation should be given/logged in case of an adjustment.

However I'm still interested in the field mentioned in my question. What is it and when does it comes into play?

    Hi TinniBosch,

I have no idea about this field but you can use marking to suppress weighted average. did you try it?
