Ways to filter records for different users

Hi all,

I'm aware of the Record-Level Security and XDS; are there any other ways to filter records for different users?

I'm wondering at the ways to filter records based on different user-based parameters, e.g.: if I wanted to filter records in regards to their HCM position, how would I go about doing it? XDS would tell me to make different Policies for each of the HCM Positions. I there not a more generic way to implement such a need?

Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks!

A more common way is to use XDS though, and link the policy to a specific security role. Then if you want to show the records differently for some users, you simply need to add that role to them in order to apply the filtering. It would not be HCM position-based then, but simply would be security role-driven. This is what we use for example on our eCommerce portal to hide information from customers which they are not supposed to see, like for a hotel, do not be able to see the whole hotel chains' invoices.

If you want more specific business-logic driven filtering which you cannot do through the above mentioned ways, or you only want to have such behaviour on specific forms, then your last option is via customization.

Simply by manipulating the FormDataSource during the initialization by applying additional ranges, joins, etc. depending on which user or users with what specific security or user groups are trying to access it, or by dynamically showing/hiding elements you could get similar results.

The disadvantage is that you need to do this on a per-form basis, so it would be more challenging to maintain it during hotfix installation or upgrades.
