AOS Batch Server has stopped Processing

We have two clustered AOS servers one of which was fulfilling the role of batch server and has worked fine for months.  The Workflow Message queue batch errored and I was able to set it to cancelling and then waiting again, however after that time the batch server would not run any other batches despite AOS restarts and checking batch status in the batch table.  I then enabled the other server as a batch server and updated the batch groups to use it.  It worked for about half an hour, processed various batch jobs then the same thing happened, i.e. Workflow Message Queue batch failed, I cancelled it and subsequently none of the other batch jobs are being processed.  We tried restarting both AOS servers, checked the batch tables and all looks fine, they are addressing the right AOSs etc.  Am completely at a loss to explain this behaviour, but more worrying don't know how to get the batch jobs running again.  You can create new batch jobs and they set up fine, they just never run despite having valid batch group and the batch group has valid batch server.

Anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas please.

This is AX 2012 R2.

    Hi Peter,

Have you deployed new customizations to this environment recently? Try to do a Full CIL compilation and after that restart both AOS services. A full CIL worked for me in the past where some batch jobs got stuck, probably due to corrupted CIL.

If this does not help you can have a look at the Windows event logs on both AOS machines to see if there are some errors or warnings reported.

Please check if you have enough disk space in the batch server.

We've faced similar issues. In our case, some log files had filled up the disk and that was causing an issue.

Hi André, thanks for your reply.

Yes we had done full CIL after adding changes.

This looks to have been an issue with one of the jobs as we had to delete and recreate them before it would process jobs again. This was frustrating because there were no errors in the event logs.

    Hi Peter,

Could there be a change in customization related to functionality of the failing batch job?

E.g. the job was extended with a new parameter field on the dialog form?

    Hi Andre,

I have a batch group linked to two AOS, and custom batch job that start with AOS1, once AOS1 is stopped the batch job runs under AOS2, but not vice versa. what could be the issue ?

    thanks a lot.

Hi MDeeb, let's continue the discussion in this thread: community.dynamics.com/.../315694

Or you can post a new one. But I don't see your question being very relevant to this 4 years old question that has already been marked as answered.
