Copy of database from a Unified Development Environment to a Unified Sandbox Environment

Hi Everyone,

I am currently working with a D365F&O environment deployed as a Unified Development Environment, which contains master data for 10 legal entities. I would like to explore the possibility of copying this database over to a Unified Sandbox Environment.

I understand that this operation is not officially supported at present. However, since both UDE and USE are Dataverse environments, I am wondering if there are alternative tools or approaches that could help address this requirement.

Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Teng Zee Liang Technical Consultant

    Hi @ZT-04090352-0

This scenario isn't supported. You can copy USE → UDE, but not UDE → USE.

Take a look at my recent blog post about which copies are supported here: https://anthonyblake.github.io/d365/finance/sysadmin/2026/09/02/d365-sysadmin-unified-admin-environments.html

There could be a potential workaround, if you have LCS available on your project. You could possibly go from UDE → export bacpac → import LCS Asset → apply bacpac to Tier 2 → copy Tier 2 to USE in PPAC. I've never tried this, and I'm not sure you can currently get a bacpac from a UDE although I have seen it discussed online as being possible via UDE SQL JIT access, and it may also need to go via a CHE. If this does work, I'm not sure if there are any problems associated with this, so try it out with care… if you have access to Viva Engage, take a look at this thread: (2) Viva Engage - Conversation

Other than that, I think DMF exports & imports of your config would be needed.
