Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on Account Card

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

I'm on GP 10 (our upgrade to GP2013 is in the works).

I'm working in a test company to change the COA account format from 2 segments to 6 using the professional services tools Account Modifier/Combiner.  I was able to successfully change the account format and modify the accounts.  I ran a reconcile on the account format setup, and the financial information.

I can post journal entries, run a trial balance (I haven't updated FRx yet), run a summary and detailed inquiry on my accounts and it all looks good.  But when I try to look at an account card I get the error 'Unhandled  object exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.  EXCEPTION_CLASS_OBJECT_EXCEPTION  ExceptionSubClass:-2146233087."

I've seen errors like this plenty of times with Integration Manager but there is no open integration and it is happening no matter which account I select.

Any ideas on what is causing this error?  I need to get it resolved quickly so we can finish testing this so we can do it in the live company on Feb. 1.

Thanks,

Julie

After more digging, I found that this is an issue with the 3rd party Papersave.  I'm still waiting to hear from them to resolve the problem.

Thanks everyone who has responded with suggestions.

You might also want to rebuild your GL00105 index file. You can do that with the PSTL tool as well. It's called 'Toolkit' in the system tools. Have a backup!

At least we know it's just the GL Master files and not transaction files.

Is the Account Maintenance screen modified?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Try exporting your reports and forms to a package file, then rename you REPORTS.DIC ands FORMS.DIC file and then import the package file. I have seen where a change such as yours needs to re-synchronized to the forms and reports dictionaries.

Do you have the Fabirkam company loaded? I would be curious to see if  you have the same issue in that company. If you go into SQL look at the table structure of the GL00100 table in your company and compare that to what you find in the TWO company are they the same?

    Try running this in SSMS

    SELECT [SGMTNUMB],[SGMTNAME],[SGMNTLTH],[USDFSGKY],[DEX_ROW_ID]

     FROM [DYNAMICS].[dbo].[SY00302]

    Then this

    SELECT [SGMTNUMB],[SGMTNAME],[LOFSGMNT],[MXLENSEG],[USDFSGKY],[MNSEGIND],[SegmentWidth],[DEX_ROW_ID]

FROM [MyCompany].[dbo].[SY00300] -- Change MyCompany to your company.

Does what you see for your company fit within what is set system wide? Also, the results of this script should match if you run it against the lesson company. There is something about the structure of your GL that does not match a dictionary.

    Hi Richard,

I synchronized the Dynamics.dic, but I am still getting the error messages.

Please try this. Edit your DEX.INI file and change SYNCHRONIZE=FALSE to SYCHNRONIZE=TRUE. Then launch GP Utilities and make sure you a dialog box pop up that say SYNCHRONIZING. This will synchronize your DYNAMICS.DIC file with what is in the database. Now that you have changed it within the database it may be that the code has not caught up with the change.

    Richard,

I should have also told you that I have the account length set at 15, the segments at 6, and the segments lengths are 4-1-3-2-2-3.  XXXX-X-XXX-XX-XX-XXX.

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for responding.  The max account length is set to 66 and the max segments is 10.  The max length on each segment is set to 6.

If you go to Tools->Setup->Company->Account Format, what are the maximum settings for account length and number of segments?

    Hi Julie,

I can't say for sure because I have not use the PSTL to do this work before but I had a similar problem a long time ago and was able to fix by running the process to rebuild all the stored procedures for financials. What had happened to me was that the SP's were out of synch with the table structure.

Again, not sure this is what it is but should be easy to try.
