Update 9.0 to 9.1 D365 CE On Premise with Minimum Downtime

Posted on by 65

Hi All

Hope you are all doing fine. Anyway, I need some advices. Finally 9.1 on premise has been released earlier this mid year and our user will need some features that are available on 9.1. We are encountering some contemplation on how to minimise the downtime when updating from previous 9.0.20 to 9.1 version. We do have 1 active production and 1 DR environment available, but still finding out on how to execute this update so that there is not too much hindrances for user.

A couple of challenges in mind are:

- planning to switch to DR whilst production is being updated, then after that switch back to Prod so that DR can be updated. However, with this approach there will be data discrepancies which means that we may need to find a way to replicate the data based on DR 9.0 to Prod 9.1 afterwards

- completely closed down both Prod and DR, but this is really unfavorable since we have 4 front end server, 4 back end servers, 1 reporting server and 1 dbcluster (2 dbservers) to be updated on each envi which will take time and means that user cannot use the system for hours long.

Perhaps some of you folks may be able to share the best strategy for this kind of task. Many thanks in advance

Cheers,
Jonas
