Sales Tax on Freight

How do you deal with states that require you to charge sales tax on freight.  If I change freight to /based on customers/ it calculates sales tax on freight for customers in states that do not tax freight.  If it's set to non-taxable we have to remember to manually change the sales tax for the states that do.  This is not a perfect system as it relies on memory.

    Sales tax is increasingly complex and difficult to maintain.  

    Rather than using the Freight field in the footer of sales documents, you can set up taxable/not taxable Freight items in Cards > Inventory > Item.

    Oftentimes, the better solution is to use a web-based service that specializes in calculating/maintaining sales tax (and filing the returns).  There are several available with the one we have the most clients using is Microsoft Dynamics Sales Tax Filing & Automation - Avalara (Avatax).
