Companies Level Security Issue

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

My client has multiple companies. It appears in NAV 2016 that I have to give each user at least one permission set for each company in the database or they cannot access any company.  In older versions I simply setup the BASIC or ALL permission set in only the companies they were allowed access to.  Then when they clicked "Select Company" or CTRL+O the users would only see the companies they are allowed into.  I am setting up an independent "Payroll" company for this client and they don’t want users to even know there is a payroll company in the database.  I have set it up for the moment so that the user is not able to access the Payroll company which is good, but they should not even be able to see it as an option.  My client really wants it so that the "Payroll" company does not show up to select.

I found the answer to my question.  It was code from the Serenic Payroll System (add on) that was causing the issue.  We remarked out the code and it works like it is supposed to now.

    Hi

The Company Filter NAV 2016 work as it was on the older version, also more beautifully you have User Groups that will make your life easy to handle permission more easily.  Old version All permission set is Replaced in NAV 2016 with Basic or Foundation (which use to remove UI elements)

if you got to edit user you can see the Company filter same way you did before in fount of the permission set you can assign the company filter, please see attached picture.

Or you can Use New Feature Create User Groups Like, Sales, Purchase, Finance etc. then you assign group permission by user and by company below are the stop to set it up

When you are in permission set window

    1. from the top ribbon Click on the "User Groups"

    2. Just give name how do you need grouping of the user as i mention above finance, sales etc.

    3. then Click the "User Group Permission Set" add the Permission set (s) customized or NAV default

    4. Click on the "User by User Group" from the Top Ribbon  and there you go select the company and just put a tick in fount of the user name the group permission he belongs to. once done click on refresh button and select another company repeat same for all the companies.

    Note

please before move in to Group permission first you need go to edit user and remove the all the permission set you  have assign there and then apply the group permission

    Thanks

It can not be related to any of the objects in the database. You can not attach any files here, however screenshot can be attached using Rich Formatting option.

Can you tell me what is your NAV 2016 platform build? I am using 9.00.45778.

It is not working this way in my database.  No offense, but I would not have asked the question if it was.  It may have something to do with Serenic Payroll or NAV-X objects that are also loaded into this database.  I am new to this forum.  Is there a way to attach files to questions / inquiries?  I can attach a word document with a lot of info related to the issue I am having.

In NAV 2016, it also works the same way. If I select Company Name against each Permission Set, system would not display other companies in the list at all.
