Activity Owner keeps changing to the same as the Account Owner

Hello,

I’m trying to change the OOB functionality where if an account record owner is changed, it also changes the owner of any associated activities, phone calls, appointments and so on.

I went to customise the system, have expanded the Account entity and clicked on 1:N Relationships, using Appointments as an example when I open this relationship I change the Type of Behaviour to Configurable Cascading, Assign to Cascade None, Share to Cascade None, Unshare to Cascade None, Reparent to Cascade None, Rollup View is set to Cascade None and I’m unable to change it and Delete and Merge are set to Cascade All again I’m unable to change.

Even with the above settings published if I change an Account record Owner the activities are also still changed to the Owner of the Account record, what am I doing wrong?

Please note I do still want any activities logged at the contact level to rollup to the parent account, so I’m hoping to avoid making any changes there,

Thank you

Ladga

    Hi Lagda,

Based on your example, the relationship configuration performed by you is correct. By design, you cannot change Delete and Merge behavior when using Configurable Cascading.

Change Assign action to Cascade None should be enough to avoid that Appointments records (associated to Account) be assigned to a new account owner.

Please, make sure that appointments and the other activities related to this Account, has the "Regarding" aattribute filled with the Account record (referencing).

Thank you for using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Communities,

    Best Regards,

    Hi Ricardo,

Thank you for your response, it works for all activities with the exception of phone calls. On the 1:N relationship under the Account entity, when I change the cascade behaviour to Configurable Cascading and change everything underneath to Cascade None, still when I change an Accounts Owner any Phone Call activities still change to the owner of the account record and I have no idea why as it does not happen for appointments, tasks, email etc. I thought maybe there was a different Phone entity being used (as in not out of the box one) but this is not the case. If you have any suggestions that would be helpful.

    Thank you

Actually I have worked out why. I need to also change the activity cascading behaviour on the contact records as well as these roll up to the account, which is why when changing the account owner any activities mainly phone calls where  regarding has been set at the contact level are still changing owner. Thank you

    Hi Lagda,

This behavior is expected since Contact record has the same behavior considering 1:N relationship (Account > Contact). If the Phone Call record is referencing a Contact, when the Account is assign to a new owner, the Cascade All will assign the Contact record and by consequence, the phone call too. Please, let me know if I can help you additionally here.

    Thanks,
