Process to manage Capital Leases

(1) ShareShare

I'm looking for some guidance to manage Capital leases without having to create an individual main account in the ledger to track the balance of the lease.  In our situation, the asset is acquired and depreciated as a normal asset.  Each month, we pay a balance of the lease, as well as the interest payable.  In some situations, additional charges are received.  What would be the best way to track the balance of the lease in AX 2012?

    Hi Jacqueline,

The only way to accomplish what you are asking is to create a invidual main account to keep track of the balance of the lease. Note, you will need to create two separate accounts, one for your capital lease asset, which is decreased by your depreciation and your capital lease liability account, which will be increased by the interest and decrease by the payments.

Out of the box AX12 functionality does not offer a simple way to keep track of capital leases, and all calculations and balances will have to be kept off your ERP in a manual spreadsheet.

We saw this is a major need in the market, and for this reason we developed the Crowe Lease Accounting Optimizer for AX12 and D365FO. Our solution allows you to account for capital leases as if it was an out-of-the  box module.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions and feel free to check our solution in the Microsoft Appsource - community.dynamics.com/.../763959

Hi Jacqeuline - I might be failing to understand the full complexity of what you are trying to do, as we have capital leases and we treat them fairly simply.

    1. just like you, we keep fixed asset per lease, to record value and depreciation

    2. The acquisition of the asset credits "lease liability", from which we deduct when we make payments.

    3. If I understand correctly - you want to track on the liability account each lease's payable separately? (we don't do that) - if that's the case, did you consider adding a "fixed asset" dimension on that account which will allow you to separately track credits/debits related to a particular lease?
