Good Morning Remote Assist Forum,
Question: What are your thoughts or recommendations for using the Remote Assist with a Hololens (or phone) in a high volume (high decibel) area such as a factory floor?
Background:
Another Linkedin user asked me a great question regarding the testing I have been doing with the Remote Assist software on a Hololens 1. They asked what my thoughts or opinions are on in using a Hololens in are very loud environments based on my testing. I told them I had not tested this yet because Remote Assist is bandwidth intensive and wifi on our the factory floor is poor.
I have two scenarios for readers to consider:
Scenario one: the loud environment
- I have tested Remote Assist in loud room filled with people. From a hearing perspective, I didn't have any problems. From a microphone perspective, I did have to raise my voice quite a bit. I did not test it but a possible solution might be a blue tooth microphone. @Microsoft factor this scenario in on use of a stand alone mic with RA
Scenario two: extremely loud environment
- Such as an engine room where hearing safety is a factor. In this scenario it means the workers in the area can't remove their hearing protection to say interact with a Remote Assist session.
- I have not tested this very loud environment but I know in one of our factories we have a milling machine that is so loud that workers in the area have to wear mandatory hearing protection.
- For the HL1, a solution i proposed but have not tested is the use of an adapter to plug in earbud heaphones into the micro usb jack at the back of the HL1. Thus the earbuds could replace foam hearing protection or fit inside earmuff style hearing protection.
I look forward to peoples thoughts on this.
thanks
Ken
